Ironcarnum has no copyright.

That's right, everything in Ironcarnum is public domain. Have fun, go crazy. Use it, modify it, whatever you want. I'd really prefer you didn't claim it as your own (I've got plenty of evidence I created it first), but if that's what makes you happy, I'm not going to stop you. I'll just disapprove.

There may be some parts that are OGL, just because I'm bolting this onto Iron Heroes. Those parts are obviously not public domain, but I can't be bothered to tell just what exactly constitutes it. If it feels right, go for it.

Editted on May 30, 2008:

Slight change here. If you see a page on Ironcarnum that doesn't have a specific notice to the contrary (detailed below), you may assume that it is in the public domain. You can take it, use it, remix it, sell it, whatever you want.

However, I've become somewhat more missionary 'bout this lately. Public domain is wonderful in almost every aspect - people can feel free to exercise their own creativity to improve upon my work and share it with others, and that lets everyone win. But it has one glaring flaw - someone can take my work, incorporate it into their own work, perhaps with changes, and then copyright their work. Even though people can still access my work freely and share it as they wish, they can't do the same with the portion of my work in the new work. This goes against the entire idea. I put my stuff out there to be used and improved, not to be locked down behind paywalls. If someone improves upon what I've done, I want them to share it as well, the same as I've done, so that I can use their new-and-improved work as well. It's a constant flow of ideas back and forth where everyone wins.

In order to ensure that this happens, any new improvements to Ironcarnum will be published under the Creative Commons BY-SA license. I don't even care about the By part, I just want the Share Alike, but CC includes By automatically. Again, I would greatly appreciate an attribution, but it's not strictly necessary, and I won't sue you for skipping it. You can even put my work in your published work and sell it (I allow Commercial Works and Derivatives), but it must be licensed under the same license, or else you're violating copyright.

Very special note! This license does not compel you to publish your work for others to use. If you want to keep things to yourself, have at it; it would be overreaching of me to compel you to violate your privacy and share your personal work. However, if you do share your work, you are not allowed to encumber it with copyright that restricts others ability to share. Once another person has your work, it is theirs, and they can do what they wish with it, including giving it away for free. This is the essence of intellectual property - the current idea that you continue to hold ownership over something even after selling it is a perversion of the original meaning that I hope will die away in time.

This is the specific notice that will be seen on licensed pages. If you see it somewhere, then the content on the page is CC'd, or a portion of the content on the page (specifically called out below the notice) is.
